'Sick Tricks' at P.S.1 Tonight

A new show is opening at the Public Space One gallery this evening, featuring the paintings and drawings of Ben Crouse and Jacob Sluka. According to a video posted this morning, there will be over 75 hung pieces of art, plus an additional 30-60 sketches on their 'sketchbook wall' introduced as they prance about the gallery. The show, entitled 'Ben and Jacob's Sick Tricks' has their opening tonight at 7pm, and will feature many of their friends performing music, and also free food.

In a phone interview with the artists, they described their work and the reasons behind this collaborative show:

"We jive well together," said Sluka, 20. "We have similar tastes in comedy, surrealism, comics, and cartoons. We've been drawing together since early high school. We worked on a satirical newspaper together, and then in later high school began working on animations." For example, 'Mikey and Mutch'.

When asked what the purpose of 'Ben and Jacob's Sick Tricks' was, Crouse, 20, replied, "We want people to know that we enjoy what we're doing. We draw everyday, as is attested by our sketchbook wall. We find our work simply amusing and this show is another creative exercise. About 40% of this work has been digitally archived, the rest will probably be hung up at our house, if it isn't sold tonight, until we find something to do with them."

On upcoming projects, Sluka commented, "I have an 8-page comic which I will be independently publishing. Together, we're working on a pilot for an animated show called 'Ean's Day', which will be about a guy in a weird computer world."

"Our dream is to work in animation," added Crouse.
