Iowa City Police arret stabbing suspect in Illinois

The Iowa City Police Department has detained a student that they believe is a suspect in the recent stabbing of two men in Iowa City.



Two men claimed that they had been stabbed a little before 2 a.m. Sunday morning near Dubuque and Washington Streets in Iowa City.

The men claimed that there had been an altercation with an Asian man in a red jersey, and the second man had been stabbed in the arm trying to help the first. One of the men was stabbed several times in the torso, twice in vital organs. Neither man suffered life threatening injuries, and both are recovering.

The suspect fled the scene, and police issued a search for him.

At about 4:30 this afternoon, 18-year-old Gabriel E. Badding was arrested in Macomb, Ill. by the Western Illinois University Police after an alert was sent out across the University of Iowa Campus.

The Iowa City Police learned his identity from public tips and alerted Western Illinois University to his location. The suspect's identity was alerted quickly. Investigations confirmed the identity and his location, and he was apprehended. His vehicle was found parked on the WIU campus, and he was located.

Badding is a student at the University of Iowa from Oak Park, Ill. He is a a student of University of Iowa's College of Liberal Arts and Sciences.

Badding faces two charges of willful injury, one of which caused serious injury. He is currently lodged int he McDonough County Jail in Illinois. His bond is set at $100,000. He is awaiting extradition.
