C2E2 Review

The third-annual Chicago Comics and Entertainment Expo took place this past weekend at the McCormick Place North Building in Chicago, bringing over 30,000 comics fans to buy from nearly a hundred exhibitors and meet special industry guests including sci-fi TV stars and dozens of comic book artists and writers.

C2E2 this year included a special auction of over two hundred costumes, props, and drawings from the Marvel Captain America, Iron Man, and Thor movies. Most especially coveted in the auction is Captain America's USO outfit, among many other pieces seen on screen during the movie.

The appraiser conducting the auction noted it was quite rare for such things to be sold at auction so soon after the movie had hit theaters.

C2E2 also featured special guests including Anne Rice (vampire novel author), Nicholas Brendon (Buffy co-star), and Charlaine Harris (author). The convention also spotlighted almost 100 comic industry guests, including Axel Alonso (Marvel Editor in Chief), Dan Slott (Amazing Spider-Man), and David Finch (The Dark Knight).

The real draw to C2E2, however, seemed to be the expo show floor. There were hundred of vendors selling everything from comics to T-shirts from a giant tower of T-shirts. Thousands of fans were shopping the exhibit floor at all hours.

This year's C2E2 was huge. I previously reviewed C2E2 in 2009, and it's remarkable how much the convention has grown, adding about 10,000 attendees in just a few short years, after starting with already impressive numbers.

Here is a very shaky walkthrough from the con. It's shaky, but in 720p you can get an idea of the con size.

C2E2 is just one large fan convention in Chicago, with others including Wizard World Chicago for entertainment and comics fans, and ACEN and Anime Midwest for anime fans.
