Iowa City police arrest man applying for peace officer job

A recent investigation of an Iowa City man led to some surprising and unsettling results and the arrest of an Iowa City man who had been applying for a job as a peace officer in Iowa City.

According to an article on thegazette.com, 21-year-old Tristan Loughran was applying for a job as a peace officer for the Iowa Department of Public Safety and was given a pre-employment polygraph.

As part of the procedure for hire with the Iowa Department of Public Safety, he was required to take it. There was also a long background check given to each applicant.

On April 1, Loughran took his polygraph test. According to the reports, when the daycare job began to be discussed, he began to seem "uncomfortable."

The agent discovered something unexpected upon investigation of this unusual behavior. The discovery was of a search warrant filed and a confession in which Loughran admitted to having sexual contact with a 2-year-old while working at the daycare job.

The agent forwarded the information to the Iowa City Police Department, who began an investigation, which included an interview of Loughran. He admitted to them as well that he had committed a sex act on the toddler. The Iowa City police placed Loughran under arrest and gave the information to the Department of Human Services in case there are other children that may have been exposed to the abuse as well.

Public reports state that the name listed for Loughran's mother and the director of the daycare center where he worked were the same. Nobody at the daycare center has commented on the situation.

Loughran does not have a criminal history in Iowa.

He faces a charge of second degree sexual abuse, which can carry up to 25 years in prison.

Loughran posted $25,000 bond and was released from the Johnson County Jail. He is not to be around any children under 16 years of age.
