'Choose Life' Plates in Iowa's Future

The Iowa Right to Life anti-abortion group is in the process of getting the ability to issue a state-legal license plate that will display the message "choose life" on them. This could actually happen before the end of the year in Iowa.

The Iowa Right to Life claimed that more than 1,000 people have expressed an interest in buying license plates that have a pro-life message on them. These are already offered in many other states, so the Iowa portion of the group decided it was time to get them in their state as well.

This fight has not been new for Iowa's anti-abortion group, though. According to wcfcourier.com, the group has actually been fighting to get the plates for roughly ten years.

The Iowa Department finally began to accept applications for the specialized plate after a very long fight. The plates cost $50 to obtain and the group had one year to gather orders for the plates.

The group has received some negative commentary about expressing their message, but they have been understanding, saying that not everyone agrees with them. Iowa in general is very accepting to personalized plates, and a large percentage of Iowa residents have them already, which has helped the acceptance of the plates.

They were required to have at least 500 orders for the plates for the Department of Transportation to be willing to create them at all. The group is about one-third of the way to the 500-plate goal. They have until next spring.
