Iowa has joined the other states that are rumored to be planning a refusal to expand their Medicaid programs under President Obama's health care plan, which passed through the Supreme Court just recently.
According to the Washington Times website, the governor of Iowa announced at a news conference that his state will probably refuse the federal funding that will expand Medicaid for the state.
The Affordable Health Care Act, as passed by Obama, is set to begin in 2014 and will include a very large Medicaid expansion available for each state. At this time, federal funding for Medicaid benefits in Iowa will expand, allowing for he eligibility of about 150,000 more people.
The opportunity to refuse the money ha will be given was offered to each state, and Republican governors all over the country are announcing that they will probably refuse he funding and the expansion of their Medicaid programs.
Reception to these refusals may not be very good. Low-income voters are predicted to be angered with these refusals because it will cut potential medical benefits that they would have.
So far, Florida, Louisiana, Wisconsin and South Carolina plan to refuse the funding. Missouri, South Dakota and Alabama are also on the fence about the issue. Iowa has joined the ranks of all republican governors, except for Missouri, which is currently a Democratic state.
Many states are still supporting the healthcare program and have already begun to initiate plans for the new funding that will be available and he increase in Medicaid funding that will be available for people.
