Performance Survey Issued, But Results Will Not Be Released

A public survey was conducted in March to evaluate the performance of the Iowa City School District's Superintendent Steve Murley, but the School Board has announced that the results of the survey will not be released to the public.

The March survey was actually open to the public and issued online. Over 600 people participated and reviewed the Superintendent. The survey was anonymous.

It evaluated everything about Murley's job and how he was doing it. It focused on his educational leadership as well as his community involvement to see if he is doing his job well.

Teachers were not the only people that were allowed to evaluate Murley, even though they made the majority of those that participated in the survey. Students, other staff, administrators and even the general public were allowed to participate.

Originally, it was stated that the survey results would be made public and they would not be considered when it came time for Murley's annual evaluation, but this original statement was retracted and that the results would not be released.

The results of the survey are not being released because they are being used to evaluate the Superintendent later in the year, according to the School Board. This is the first time that Murley has been evaluated.

No information has been released about how much the survey results will be involved in the evaluation process, and how much they will actually affect Murley's job in general, but the survey has thus far proven very useful in the process.
