Teen Allegedly Murders Grandparents

A warrant has been issued for the arrest of 17-year old Isaiah Richard Sweet of Manchester for the murders of his two grandparents, 62-year old Janet Mae Sweet and 55-year old Richard Lee Sweet.

The teenager is being charged with a double homicide after the two were found murdered in their home on Sunday afternoon after a 911 call was made.

Iowa City Police had previously had Sweet in their custody for a minor infraction earlier that very day. They stopped him and took him to the police station for driving on a suspended license and being out after curfew because he is a minor.

Sweet was released a few hours later before the police station had any suspicion of him relating to the double homicide. He is possibly still in the Iowa City area now, and a warrant has been issued as well as a reward of up to $1,000 for any information about his whereabouts.

Reports have stated that Sweet spoke with someone on the phone Friday telling them that he drugged his grandparents, and told them again on Sunday that he killed his grandparents.

Neighbors define Sweet as a troubled teen and voiced fears about releasing information until he is captured. All resources are being used to find Sweet, and even schools are taking special precautions until his capture.

This far, police do not believe that he will return to the home where he had been living with his grandparents. His parents reside out of state, and no other connections are known as of yet.
