The remains of a man were found on Saturday in Colorado by a hiker who discovered a campsite on Friday. The remains discovered are thus far believed to be of a man named James Nelson, a hiker from Chicago who disappeared in 2010.
The Chicago Tribune website states that a camper found the remains of a campsite near a ghost town called Holy Cross City and told the police about it on Friday. The next day, the police came to the site and discovered the body of a man.
The campsite is believed to have been used by 31-year old James Nelson, who went on a 25-mile, five day hike in Colorado. He never returned from the trip and has been missing since the event.
Upon investigation of the campsite, police discovered that some of the man's gear was missing, and his notebook indicated that Nelson was ill. He was possibly suffering from altitude sickness. The camera and GPS unit that he took with them were not at the campsite with his remains.
Nelson was working with the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America in Chicago, where he lived, when he went on the hike and did not return. He was a college graduate.
The body has been turned over for an autopsy, and no word has been given yet on what the actual cause of death was. It may take a few days in order to get the results back from the autopsy to discover. Investigations will continue on the incident.
