City to Stoke the Fire

In response to the rain slowing down the Iowa City landfill fire recently, the city has decided to stoke the fire in order to once again accelerate the burning so that the fire will burn out much faster.

The Iowa City landfill caught on fire and has been burning for a week. The original plan was to allow the fire to burn out because water and chemicals would not put the fire out and would be potentially harmful to the environment.

The fire was contained, but was still burning when the rain hit and cooled down the very hot fire. This was not expected to put out the fire, but surprisingly, it had an effect that was much worse.

The water that cooled down the fire made it burn more slowly, therefore burning itself out over a longer period of time. Even though it minimized the smoke, this was a situation that did not please the city.

In order to combat this and prevent any more spreading of the fire, which has already happened according to thonline.com, the city has made plans to stoke the fire with heavy machinery to get it to burn more quickly.

The fire will be contained with this effort and the ability to burn through everything will be increased. The fire will reheat itself and return to the original speed, making the duration of the health warnings much shorter.

Even though this will have a good effect, stirring up the fire will produce some smoke and winds that will blow through the residential areas, so the city will warn residents before anything is done.
