Iowa City Woman No Longer Allowed to Practice Daycare

An Iowa City woman who used to provide daycare services in the city is no longer allowed to do so because she failed to appear at a scheduled trial today.

According to kcrg.com, Lisa Koplin was facing a civil trial on allegations that a 3-month-old baby was injured in her care. She failed to appear for the trial, and as a result, she is no longer allowed to practice daycare.

The trial spurred from a report by Kellee Forkenbrock that she picked up her daughter and noticed dried blood on her face and clothes, and that she was screaming. She vomited blood, which led Forkenbrock to seek emergency care.

At the hospital, it was discovered that the child had lacerations in her throat that were most likely caused by trauma, according to doctors. The Iowa Department of Human Services got involved with the incident.

The police visited Koplin, who was very defensive, according to reports, and was also very drunk. She struggled with a story and was very defensive when she called Forkenbrock later.

Her name was already added to the Iowa City child abuse registry, following a decision by a judge on Monday.

The trail proceeded even though Koplin was not present for it. The injunction was served against Koplin, and she has been banned from being able to practice daycare in Iowa City ever again.

Davina Holladay with the Department of Human Services in Iowa testified against Koplin in the trial that was set to happen this morning, stating that a baby was injured in Koplin's home and she only sought to cover up the incident. Holladay stated that Koplin was dishonest about the incident.

Koplin only faced civil charges for the incident instead of criminal ones because it cannot be proven that she was responsible for injuring the child or that the child was even intentionally injured at all. All t hat is known is that something did happen and Koplin did try to hide the matter.

Forkenbrock has expressed joy that Koplin has come to justice for what happened. Her daughter has recovered from the injuries.

Koplin  has yet to cooperate with the investigation and cannot be reached. Her attorney withdrew from the trial last month, according to records.
