Katharine McPhee, co-star of NBC's Smash, expressed her jubilation two weeks ago over the show's nomination for a Golden Globe when she found out.
According to Access Hollywood, she said "I actually kind of thought you were joking this morning," when she learned that the nominations were announced earlier that morning.
However Smash is not without fierce competition, as it was nominated against more established shows including Modern Family and The Big Bang Theory.
Steven Spielberg, Smash's executive producer, said "Everyone who is involved with 'Smash,' whether on the outskirts or at the epicenter, is thrilled and dancing in the aisles this morning on this wonderful news," Steven Spielberg, executive producer of "Smash," in a statement.
"I'm absolutely thrilled to be in such wonderful company and to be honored by the HFPA," McPhee said in a released statement.
