Verizon Wireless Broadband Coming

For those who reliably need a connection to the internet wherever they go, Verizon's EV-DO wifi connections have been an excellent option. Using a simple USB card, a person can connect their laptop to the internet anywhere Verizon's cell phones work. But in Iowa City, coverage was lacking to say the least. But, not for long.

Verizon offers two standards with it's wifi anywhere service, NationalAccess and BroadbandAccess. The first offers average download speeds of about 10KBp/s, only usable for checking email, but the later offers true high speeds up to 200KBp/s. Several local municipalities already had BroadbandAccess, but Johnson County did not.

Starting around July 1, that should all change. According to Verizon officials, they should be switching on Broadband Verizon wireless internet in Iowa City late June or early July.
